The Black Living Donor Choir

The Power of Music

The Black Living Donor Choir was created in 2022 by Dr. Dela Idowu, founder of Gift of Living Donation (GOLD), as a platform to raise awareness of living kidney donation in the Black community through  music. The choir’s unique approach of  combining music with living donor stories is  allowing them to reach a wide and diverse audience.

The choir demostrate one can still live a full life donating a kidney.

Mission

The choir is on a mission to inspire more people to consider living kidney donation and especially encouraging kidney patients to have the conversations with family and friends, because each conversation has the power to transform lives

What people say about us

I never knew anything about living donation before. I didn’t realise it was something Black people could do in the same way. Seeing the choir perform made it feel real, and I went home and talked to my family about it.

I honestly didn’t know much about living donation at all. Watching the choir sing and seeing people who look like me made me think differently, it opened up a conversation in my home that we’d never had before.

We saw the choir performing at Brixton station and were drawn in immediately. It was uplifting, but also made us stop and think especially as Black people about how we can talk about donation within our own families.

A brilliant initiative combining culture, music, and an important health message. It engages people in a way traditional campaigns simply don’t.
